What is the Young Artists Lab?

The performing arts are a healthy, productive, and fun way to learn the value of walking in another person’s shoes while still learning to develop one’s own character.

The Young Artists Lab is a not-for-profit workshop setting for high school aged students interested in the visual and performing arts. Classes vary depending on the season, but the Lab aims to become the west side of LA's leading source for quality artistic instruction for all students, without limitation due to income.

We foster our students with the confidence and context to not only perform on-stage in front of a living and breathing audience, but to express their opinions about the world with creativity and passion off-stage as well.

Classes are held in Santa Monica and Venice, and participating students come from as far as Malibu, Westchester, and downtown LA to experience a great summer camp for teenaged artists.

What is it .........................................................?

The 2009 summer program is a three week summer camp experience in the visual and performing arts.  Students learn a process of artistic exploration, culminating in a presentation of their work at the end of each session. This summer's courses include:

IMPROV COMEDY WORKSHOP
MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP

MOVIE MAKING 101 WORKSHOP

Who is it for .....................................................?

The summer program is designed to stretch high school age students with or without stage/film experience in one week sessions.  All courses are guaranteed to please both young and older artists.

Students are given assignments tailored towards their individual development, as well as class projects meant to foster trust and friendships within the class.  Success is measured on a student-by-student basis, with emphasis on process rather than product.  An end of week presentation of their work highlights each workshop.

All students will have personal instruction, a written progress report marking areas of both strength and room for growth, and the chance to stretch themselves in a safe, nurturing, and creative environment led by trained, professional instructors.
